Isle Snaps

Brass Ep. 73

“Are we part of that land?” asked Copper.

“No,” replied Fuen. “Well, yes… Maybe. Here’s the thing. Every so often, islands appear off the coast. They pop up, filled with life, then deteriorate and sink into the ocean. Nothing from these lands ever makes it to the mainland. A friend and I just wanted to see what was on one of those islands.”

“Can you stop our land deteriorating?” asked Copper.

“The loss of these islands seems unstoppable,” sighed Fuen. “Like the tides, time or humans posting pointless Facebook updates.”

Cooo, sorry if you haven’t been able to like, comment or have been missing the last few posts in WordPress app this last few days. My JetPack plugin disconnected on the 7.1/2 update and I only noticed last night. Seems the effects have been rather random on a person by person basis. Some folk just haven’t been able to comment. Others haven’t seen my posts pop up for days. While a few folks had no issues whatsoever.

Gotta love JetPack, and all its wonderful quirks.

Bad Ideas

Brass Ep. 72

Fuen pecked around in the boot and tossed out a spare fuse to Iron. “Why were you looking for us?” asked Copper.

“I wanted to see if anyone lived on this island,” sighed Fuen. “Then got myself stuck here.”

“Where did you come from?” asked Copper.

“A place between the world of the living and the lands of the dead. Where hopes, ideas and dreams live until they’re forgotten,” replied Fuen. “We’re hoping the Brits forget about Brexit sometime soon. Bad ideas that big really stink up the place.”

Lost Fuse

Brass Ep. 71

“You don’t look like a machine,” noted Copper.

“I’m not,” replied the bird, hopping onto the car. “I’m Fuen, a bird spirit of sorts. Is thing this still working?”

Iron pulled out a burnt fuse. “Aha, ruddy thing,” said Fuen.

“It’s not the fuses fault,” remarked Copper. “It just couldn’t resist.”

Birds Arrival

Brass Ep. 70

The corvid hopped along the road towards them. The closer it got the less threatening it seemed. Its curious gait was anything but threatening.

“Bugger me,” grumbled the bird as it reached them. “This place is a sod to get around.”

Copper and Iron looked to each other. Then at the bird. “I lost you both when the city collapsed,” said the bird. “Been trying to catch you since. You’ve been harder to find than a sniff of common sense is in a British government.”

Birds Approach

Brass Ep. 69

As Copper and Iron moved around the car they felt their feet sinking into the sand. Walking was hard and running was impossible. They watched the corvid walking ever closer to them. Iron popped the bonnet open and began rummaging around the electrics. Copper ducked underneath the car.

“Dammit,” grumbled Copper as she got her first view of the chassis. The sand they’d been driving on had blasted the entire underside of the car several shades of burnt rust. The only time she’d seen a deeper shade of orange was when she watched a human step out of an Essex tanning salon.

Trying to think of an orange segue, and I don’t mean the fruit. So we’ll go with mentioning the Little Fears tees are available in orange.

Wind Loss

Brass Ep. 68

The duo stepped out of the car. Looking back up the road they could see the bird was walking towards them. They could hear the howl of wind above their heads, yet they felt no wind on their bodies and the sand was unmoved. Copper reached with her hand outstretched. She felt a chill wind on her fingertips.

“Even the weathers decaying,” she sighed. “That blows.”

Do you know what doesn’t blow? An artist’s desperate attempts to market themselves below their stories.

Electric Loss

Brass Ep. 67

The car sputtered. Iron tapped the fuel gauge. They’d filled the tank from jerry cans less than a hundred mile back and the tank was still showing full. The lights inside and out of the car started flickering.

Copper looked out of the back window. The black-bird still visible on its dune, still watching.

The radio turned on and off. Delivering sporadic bursts of white noise. As the last of the electrical charge dissipated from the car, Copper sighed. It was like being in Britain during the seventies.

I’d say for that story I need an electric segue but all I have is an analogue Etsy.

Dune Bird

Brass Ep. 66

Iron narrowed her eyes. “I see it,” said Copper. “Keep driving.”

Sitting on a dune, far away from the road, sat the black creature. Its piercing eyes surrounded by black feathers. Coppers original belief confirmed as it spread its wings.

Copper reached across to Iron, resting her hand on Irons’ shoulder.

“That bird,” pondered Copper, “looks a right chirp off the old block.”

Did that story get you in a flap? Well, one thing that won’t make you flap is the free delivery of Little Fears art prints on our Etsy store.

Bot Chipped

Brass Ep. 65

They’d seen nothing but sand for seven hours. So, when Iron spotted a shine of metal up ahead she slowed down for a look.

They stopped next to the object and Copper leaned out of the window. A wrecked robot laid on the sand with its legs dipping beneath the surface. It looked like it had been attacked with at least fifty computer CPUs. “That’s a death that would have megahertz,” observed Copper.

Iron chuckled and Copper sighed. A clunk into first gear and they continued West.

Do you want to know what wouldn’t megahertz? A t-shirt being thrown at you. The great thing is, we’ve got a Threadless store filled with t-shirts, tanks and hoodies! None of which would ever-hertz!

Memory Fades

Brass Ep. 64

Copper starred out of the window. The dunes getting fewer and further between. Flat sand in every direction. The road had started to disappear now too. Iron knew to keep heading West. If the road disappeared, she’d drive to Brass as the crow flies.

“I don’t remember how I got to my cabin,” sighed Copper. “I remember odds and ends of my life before. I remember apples. But everything else is just ambiguous and frustrating. Like being on a Ryan-Air flight.”

Hey, want to know something that doesn’t fade? The ink on my art prints.
