Grey Moon – Wednesday (ep. 25)
Reala was freezing. She was sat peering out of the window at three penguins on opposite side of the road.
The penguins then industriously made a snow slide and tried sliding down it. Being made of snow, it fell apart.
They then crossed the road and tried the slide in the Grey Moon beer garden.
Reala caught her breath. There was a punchline there.
~~~
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. There are no depths I will not plumb for a groan!
Also, these penguins turn up in quite a few tales. My editor has declared them her spirit animals. I think I understand…
I know she was seated is correct.
She was seated is correct, but she was sat isn’t grammatically incorrect. 🙂
Very well. Nice post by the way. Don’t mind for the comments on grammar.
Thank you, Crown. I’m comfortable enough in my language to not be offended by grammar corrections. I’m a cockney. I butcher my own language on a daily basis in real life. 🙂
I adore your penguins. But, I admit, I didn’t find the punchline. I know nothing is worse than explaining a joke so I am not asking for it. A hint, maybe? I listened to your voice several times now, thinking it might be in the way you pronounce penguin (don’t forget, I’m not a native English speaker) but no, that wasn’t it … I’ll keep at it, though. It’s the first groaner of yours I didn’t get (so far).
Oh my, A real groaner. Thank you.
re: “she was sat” is not “standard English” but my sources tell me that it is more and more often heard in BE these days.
