Black Sands

(The story thus far. This series runs until October, so check back, Monday to Friday for the rest of the tales. In October, we’ll have a new series to coincide with Inktober.)

The Fears face unfamiliar horrors with a familiar sense of humour, as we find them washing ashore on a stretch of islands in the lands in-between.

Black Sands is our current series, with new tales published five days a week. Monday to Friday. Check back daily for updates.

To be continued…

Check back every day, Monday to Friday in July, for further tales from the black sands.

Without Patreon, cups of ko-fi, Threadless sales and all the other links below, I wouldn’t be able to make you all groan every day and create series like this. So thank you, everyone, for all the support. May the groans and grimaces I cause give your face laughter lines and your scalp grey hairs. Thank you.

As always, shout out and thanks to Bruce, Badger, Kathy & Warren for the continued $10 Patronage. You can find me on Ko Fi, Patreon, Etsy, Amazon, Skillshare and Threadless.

Trends

The trio watched another Sprite emerge from the ocean, let out a cry for help, before immediately sinking into the black sands.

“I saw Sprites trending on Twitter this morning,” remarked Cuttle.

“I’ve had enough of social media,” pondered Parrotfish. “I’m on a social media detox at the moment.”

“Fair enough,” replied Jelly. “What do folks on Twitter think about that?”

“I dunno,” replied Parrotfish, pulling their phone out and opening the app.

Shout out and thanks to my $10 Patrons, whose support helps me bring you daily tales of groan-inducing terror. Bruce, Badger, Kathy & Warren.

Grape Shot

“Hey, Jelly,” said Parrotfish. “Can I interest you in all of the
awesome health benefits of a dried grape?”

“What are you on about?” replied Jelly.

“Oh, you know,” sighed Parrotfish. “Just raisin awareness.”

Shout out to my new and rather dystopian patron, J. Rogers. Thanks for the new patronage.

Cheers to Kathy & Warren for the continued $10 Patronage. You can find me on Ko Fi, Patreon, Etsy, Amazon, Skillshare and Threadless.

Story by Sue

Seren woke feeling discombobulated. She recalled uncomfortable sensations of dry heat, crinkling popping noise and falling, dishevelled, broken.

She lay quite still assessing this situation: A soft voice murmuring, but only one voice. The rise and fall of the intonation soothed Seren. A silken blanket wrapped around her, lifting her.

Gentle expertise lowered her brokenness into a refreshing, warm bath. Perfumed aromas filled her spirit and she sighed.

Thoroughly relaxed, she focused on the voice until she was able, finally to hear; “After an accident Eastern Serendipity!”

Rush

“Considering you’re on a deserted island,” pondered Lucy, “you’re in an awful hurry.”

“How did you get here?” asked Meria.

“Same way you did, I imagine,” replied Lucy.

Meria nodded to the East, “storms coming.”

“Yeah,” noted Lucy. “It’ll blow over.”

Not another long serial. Just another five-parter like the Shore with my usual play-on-words mixed with a smidgen of horror.

January

January was my first series of Little Fears stories. This first series was just a random series of tales. There’s no plot arcs, character development or history. It was just me, looking at copyright-free photos, imagining monsters. I hope you enjoy.

Bedtime Monsta

It wasn’t the monster under the bed Rebecca was scared of, it was the human in the cupboard.

New month, new stories to tell. Even though this was the last of my ACEO batch.

Lost Leeds

The Lost Leeds storylines are three sets of thirty(ish) tales following DCI Lily and Inspector Sally’s criminal investigations first posted in 2018. They make up the Little Fears 6th series of stories.

A mass-murder occurs, with one victim. The thief, Robyn Banks returns from DCI Lilys past and Anita Bath, the dirty diary stealer goes on a killing spree.

Sprite Dims

“I don’t feel so good,” sighed Sprite.

“She must be a passing thought of a human with a short attention span,” remarked Cuttle. “I blame the internet.”

“Oh shut up, Cuttle,” sighed Parrotfish. “It’s a sad moment when good ideas are overlooked as easily as a garden fence.”

Shout out to Barba of LetItGoCoach.com for buying me another cuppa on Ko-Fi yesterday.

Shore-Line

“I think I’m lost,” sighed Sprite.

“Funny,” said Jellyfish, “I just lost my wife while she was working down by the shoreline.”

“Working?” asked Sprite. “What does she do here?”

“Oh, it’s hard to say,” sighed Jellyfish. “She sells sea shells on the seashore.
