Forget

“So I’m trapped on this island until human-kind forgets about me?” cried Meria. “I’ve been here for fifty years. Surely they can’t still remember me.”

“They’d almost forgotten,” said Lucy. “But your mother, who you murdered for just £12, was a good friend of mine. About the only human, I ever loved. So imagine my delight when I sold my story to a film studio a few weeks back.”

Meria let out a howl as Lucy’s body turned to smoke. As the wind picked up and lifted her off the island, she noted, “I hear there’s going to be a book too.”

Answer

“So, why am I here?” asked Meria. “Why have I been stuck on this island for as long as I can remember?”

“Sometimes the dead and their ideas, hopes and dreams can live on in the world between the living and dead until they’re forgotten entirely,” replied Lucy.

“What’s that got to do with me?” asked Meria.

“Well, first of all, you’re dead,” replied Lucy. “Furthermore, you’ve been remembered for over fifty years for the murder of your mother.”

Knock

Story by Glen

Mal checked outside the door once again.

Nothing. The grass and brush were dead and the trees, if not dead, were dying. The bird carcass was still there, untouched.

He shut the door and relocked it, setting the chain, too.

It seemed like only minutes after he sat down in the comfy chair that it happened again.

The knob rattled and tried to turn.

Mal did not stir. Instead, he muttered, “I thought that there was nothing left alive out there . . .”

The rattling stopped. An equally soft voice replied, “If it helps any, you are right.”

The author of Knock is a long-term Fears’erer, Glen of Ask-De-Writer over on Tumblr. Cheers for the spookems man!

It’s three weeks late posting because I’m an idiot. I scheduled it for the wrong month and didn’t notice until Glen prompted me. Doh. Sorry, man.

Showtime

Story by Lady Black

The show at Theatre Spectaculation ensued with murder, blood and gore. The actors bowed and then sat down into chairs that had been placed behind them.

The stage and the actors were thrown into seizures as the electricity coursed through their bodies. After three minutes of the Friday night fry, smoke emanated from their lifeless bodies. The director, Thomas the Tintalator emerged and snarled, “a little pain for a little production, a little death for the day and the ultimate show is created.”

Story by Lady Black of Hope, Truth and Light. She’s been writing poetry since she was 15. Lady moved onto music, scriptwriting and now fiction. She’s not stopping there, with a t-shirt company, singing career and rock band in the works. Check out her blog at mentalhealthrecovery.home.blog

Cricket Ball

“I don’t want you here,” growled Meria.

“Well, you’re stuck with me,” laughed Lucy. “My wife just left me on account of my obsession with cricket.”

“Should I care?” asked Meria.

“No,” replied Lucy. “It just really hit me for six.”

“Why did you come to this island?” asked Meria.

Lucy reached for a bottle of whisky and grinned.

Light Switch

Meria kicked the pub’s door open and dragged her haul inside.

“Well, this is grim,” chuckled Lucy flicking the light switch. “Bulbs have gone?”

“Times are hard here,” sighed Meria. “There’s no money on this island and the electricity abandoned the supply years ago.”

“Well,” smirked Lucy, “these are dark times

Shout out to Kathy of Kathy of London for new patronage this morning. You’ll find photography, poetry and pecking birds on her blog, so if you fancy any of the above, give her a visit. Cheers, Kat!

Pod

“This is one cold and barren island,” remarked Lucy.

“It has sea birds, sheep and fish,” replied Meria.

“Not much intelligent life here,” grinned Lucy.

“The dolphins are about as smart as life gets here,” growled Meria, “and that suits me fine.”

“That’s all well and good until you need to clean a pod them,” chuckled Lucy. “I doubt you have many multi-porpoise cleaners on this rock.”

Clouded

“That’d make a good photo,” remarked Lucy.

“Only for some motivational social media crap,” snorted Meria.

“I like clouds,” pondered Lucy. “I wrote a play about five clouds. On the opening night, the director added a sixth cloud.”

Meria shook her head and pressed on.

“The stage was overcast,” grinned Lucy.

Battery Life

Art by Liz

“Dammit,” she grumbled as the screen of the tablet turned off.

Etta fumbled around in the kitchen drawer for a charger cable. She yanked the microwaves plug out of the wall and plugged in her tablet. She peered at her reflection in the screen waiting for the tablets power button LED to turn green.

“Hurry up and turn me on,” said her reflection. “We miss you already.”
