Bernie Bear

“Oh, for the love of…” she sighed.

Her husband stood at the door with his Bernie the Bear stuffed toy in his hand.

“Really?” she grumbled. “Aren’t you too old for that?”

“Yeah,” replied Bernie.

Hannah’s Dinner

“Hannah,” Cassie called. “Time to stop playing now, dinner is ready!”

She was legendary at hide and seek, Cassie often thought she could vanish into thin air.

“Hannah!” Cassie yelled into the master bedroom.

A giggle replied, her shoes just visible.

“Got you!” Cassie cried, grabbing her feet, pulling her bloody stumps out from under the bed.

Dinner got cold.

Tap Tap

“You know Jamie says we need to knock on his cupboard three times to keep the monsters in,” he said in a half question.

“Yeah,” she replied.

“Well I forgot a few days ago,” he said. “He started asking me to tap the toy trunk three times instead.”

“How odd,” she said.

“I know right,” he said. “Well, I tapped his cupboard last night by mistake.”

“And?” she asked.

“Tonight, he wants me to tap his head,” he said.

The Ladies Greenhouse

She walked into the back garden. She hadn’t visited for 10 years, but even in its overgrown state, the house, garden and greenhouse all seemed to look the same.

She nudged the greenhouse door open. It fell from its hinges.

The pot at the bottom right hadn’t been moved, she thought. She buried her hand and pulled out the face of a young man. The dry soil appeared to have preserved it to some degree. She slipped it into her handbag. She might come back for another one in another 10 years.

Patient Seven

“What kind of nut job signs up for this?” asked the nurse.

“The kind of nut job that asks to be awake during the procedure,” replied patient 7.

The nurse shivered as the doctor began drilling into patient 7’s skull.

“Nearly there,” said the doctor, as he slid the first four wires into the hole.

“What was that?” asked the nurse, as the computer beeped.

“That’s not meant to happen,” replied the doctor, as patient 7’s heart stopped.

Work Goals

I wandered into work this morning. Couldn’t see anyone at the front desk. The elevators were empty too. Out of the 42 people on my floor, only Larry and I bothered to turn up this morning. And even then, Larry had hanged himself from a high beam.

I went to make a coffee, but the milk carton was full of blood. I needed someone to put my complaint too, but HR was empty. I headed up to the MD’s office. His head was sitting on the desk. I am not sure where the rest of him was.

I’ll tell you one thing, we won’t be hitting our targets this month.

White Flash

A fizz followed by a flash of white light.

“For Christ sake,” he said, pulling the light off of his e-reader. He wouldn’t mind, but it was the sixth bulb this week.

The bed sheets rustled as he rummaged in the top drawer.

“I see you,” she said, from underneath the bed.

Yuffies Grave

A sixth hand slipped its fingers around her throat and started pulling her into the dirt. She swore under her breath.

“Gem, how many bodies are down here?” asked Yuffie.

Gem grinned. “Too many.”

It was OK though. Yuffie knew she would come back from the dead either way. There was no coming back from where Gem was going.

Elephants Trunk

“It won’t just stick back into place,” said Delia, fumbling with the elephant’s trunk.

“Here,” replied Alice, handing over a tube of super glue.

“I thought it was made of ivory,” said Delia, turning the figurine over in her hand.

“Nothing mum owns is what it looks like,” sighed Alice.

“You know,” grumbled Delia, “this would be a lot easier without all the blood on my hands.”

Toms Love

Pressed against the side of the RV, she felt her arm tear from her shoulder. She tried to scream, but it was more of a gargle. Considering what was left of her throat though, a gargle was quite impressive in itself. Tom’s face came in close to hers. She loved him. Even after he ripped her head off. There was still enough of Tom left to carry her head away from her body as the others moved in and tore it apart. Good ‘ole Tom.
