Car Scrape

Brass Ep. 55

A whir and a clunk, and the car started. Iron snatched a cloth from the centre console and began cleaning the window. Copper rummaged about in the boot of the car and found a window scraper.

The duo got to work cleaning all of the Fords windows. It reminded Iron of the time she used a Grim Reaper toys plastic scythe to remove the snow from her old car.

It wasn’t a task to repeat though. Iron knew she’d de-iced with death.

Frog Park

Brass Ep. 53

The pair continued their journey in silence for what felt like hours. They found themselves stopping for a break in Frogs Pond car park.

Copper sat on the bonnet of a rusted Lotus. Iron crawled through the window and tried to get the car to start.

“I’m surprised there’s a vehicle here,” said Copper. “This car park was for amphibians only. All other vehicles used to get toad.”

City Sink

Brass Ep. 52

A rumble and crash broke their focus and in a blink of an eye, every building around them had sunk into the ground.

“Cripes. This reminds me of the funfair made of glass,” remarked Copper. “I couldn’t see the attraction.”

They smirked together.

Copper looked about at the now absent city and sighed.

Distant Eyes

Brass Ep. 51

“Did you hear that?” gasped Copper.

Iron looked back up the road, eyes narrowed. Copper followed Irons gaze. She saw movement on top of a building in the distance. A spot of black with two shining eyes.

“Do you see its eyes?” asked Copper.

Iron cocked her head to one side and gave her a nod.

“I do like an eye pun,” remarked Copper. “The cornea the better.”

Mods’n’Codders

Brass Ep. 50

Metallic fish were strewn across the street outside the chip shop. Iron nudged the handlebars of a motorcycle with her nose. ‘Triumph’ embossed on the petrol tank. The rest of the bike had sunk into the dirt road.

“On Fridays, two shoals of robot fish riding motorcycles or mopeds would come here and have a dust-up,” sighed Copper.

Iron dug around the tank. As she loosened the soil what was let of the bike sunk below ground level. Copper pulled Iron away from the sinking vehicle.

“It was very seventies,” she continued. “Codrophenia.”

Pony Up

Brass Ep. 41

Thirty minutes of Coppers tinkering passed. Computers deconstructed all over the room. She had a bag full of spares.

“That’ll keep us going,” said Copper. “This place looks like a tip though…”

Iron beeped and whirred an acknowledgement and looked about the wreckage. She wasn’t sure what sort of tip Copper meant, but she felt it was a good tip.

Olivia’s Tree

By Layne Ambrose

“Seriously another one?” Olivia says.

“Every day Olivia. It is a graveyard after all. People have to go somewhere,” Rufus says in a deflated tone.

“Well can’t they see that we are running out of space here?” Olivia protests.

Rufus shrugs. “Whatever, I’m not sharing my tree. This is my tree so, everyone can just bugger off,” Olivia exclaims.

“Calm down, no one said that you had too,” Rufus says.

“Good because I’m not. I saw that old lady with her dog eyeing my tree. It is totally not happening.”

Sea Creature

Fear of Ink (3)

The boat capsized and her limp body plunged into the water.

The only thing she’d felt since the initial sting, aside from creeping paralysis, was a wriggle beneath her skin. Like worms were burrowing through her flesh.

Its tendrils took hold of her body, and she began a gradual descent towards the maw of the beast. She was almost grateful to the sea that filled her lungs. Taking her life before the creature had its meal.

Scotch Tape

Brass Ep. 37

They found their way to the library where Copper spotted a lone computer. She pulled out her tools and got to work deconstructing it.

Iron wandered up the aisles of books. “Don’t go too far,” called Copper. Irons claws were nimble enough to open a book, but not sharp enough to turn the pages with accuracy. Tilting her head sideways, she read the book titles.

‘Scotch; The History of Sellotape.’ She debated having a read, but she knew she’d never find the beginning.

History Class

Brass Ep. 36

They headed into the stationary room and nudged open the doors to the connected classrooms. Copper walked through the history classroom.

Irons opinion of the school lowered dramatically. Scanning the walls, she noticed a poster with the heading ‘Great Rulers’. She dismissed it as uninformative when saw no mention of the Helix 30cm Shatterproof.
