“Bloody teachers,” grumbled Spider.
“What’s up?” asked Serpent.
“My math tutor just called me average,” ranted Spider.
“Oh dear,” replied Serpent. “How mean…”
Normal service resumed! Kinda! You’ll notice my little slider has been removed from below posts, the flavour text at the bottom has changed and the titles are missing from the main page. There’s a handful of other changes I’ve made along with it that most folk won’t notice.
I’ve done what I can to get the like button to show up on new posts going forward, but it’s not something I care enough about to spend more time on. We were discussing on social media last week about removing likes entirely from blogs. I get a lot of people like to show like love. Myself included, I have always been a self-confessed liker. But if likes were missing from a blog, what would change? What would be missed? People won’t stop reading something if they can’t click a button at the end. If anything I imagine it would encourage more comments to be honest. It certainly has this last week.

I tried to like this but like button isn’t working

The like button is on vacation due to me having to tuck the site behind a wall of Cloudflare. ?

The like button is a nice feature for those of us who don’t always have time to type out a comment, but would still like you to know that your blog was appreciated, that your humor hit the mark or your horror was on target.

Cheers Marge. Helpful comment. The like buttons absent due to me having to tuck the site behind Cloudflare. Using a 10th of the bandwidth and costs me a lot less at the expense of some JetPack features being blocked or fritzy. 🙂

Clever, but lost on anyone who ignored math, I’m afraid. Nicely done.

Removing the Like button forces one to leave a comment or leave the site with no interaction at all. To Like or not to Like….

But would it stop someone reading the post? I quite enjoy XKCD, the lack of like button has never stopped me enjoying the posts. 🙂

I believe this is a great idea.. I feel people find it easier to click a button than to think and type a few words of appreciation about the writing or post.. Personally, I find a few comments way too inspiring than many ‘likes’..

Comments are always more pleasant than likes. To be honest on this blog though, there’s a limit to how many ways people can say ‘lol’ so I accept this is a comment lite site. 🙂

I’m with Marge. Navigating from WordPress onto pages where I can comment is difficult sometimes on the sketchy train WiFi, so a like shows my appreciation too.

good post. I agree with your assessment of all this “like” business. Feel sort of a monkey getting some response high -instead of just wanting folks to be entertained….

I’m not opposed to likes at all, but when it takes a lot of time and effort to fix a sites likes, I do debate whether or not it’s worth fixing. I can live without em. 🙂

No worries about the Like bar, I don’t like this stuff anyway. How’s that for… mean?

Oh dear, now you make me “do the math” in English…?!
My brain will start to smoke and my head might explode!
Sounds like you have done quite a bit of work on your blog, recently. Sorry that the “Like” button issue keeps coming up.
Keep warm and tell that cold to go away!
Much Love,
Steffi
