Battery Life

Art by Liz

“Dammit,” she grumbled as the screen of the tablet turned off.

Etta fumbled around in the kitchen drawer for a charger cable. She yanked the microwaves plug out of the wall and plugged in her tablet. She peered at her reflection in the screen waiting for the tablets power button LED to turn green.

“Hurry up and turn me on,” said her reflection. “We miss you already.”

This weeks art is by Liz of SeeLizBlogWithFriends. For some srsly spookems (and non-spookems) art, check out her site. With pics like Warped Sun, you can see why she’s right up my street.

January

January was my first series of Little Fears stories. This first series was just a random series of tales. There’s no plot arcs, character development or history. It was just me, looking at copyright-free photos, imagining monsters. I hope you enjoy.

Bedtime Monsta

It wasn’t the monster under the bed Rebecca was scared of, it was the human in the cupboard.

New month, new stories to tell. Even though this was the last of my ACEO batch.

Lost Leeds

The Lost Leeds storylines are three sets of thirty(ish) tales following DCI Lily and Inspector Sally’s criminal investigations first posted in 2018. They make up the Little Fears 6th series of stories.

A mass-murder occurs, with one victim. The thief, Robyn Banks returns from DCI Lilys past and Anita Bath, the dirty diary stealer goes on a killing spree.

Sinking Sprite

“Help,” gasped Sprite.

“It’s OK,” said Cuttle. “You’re just moving on to whatever comes after an ideas life.”

“Like heaven?” asked Sprite.

“I dunno,” shrugged Cuttle. “But if you see Democracy and common sense there, say hello from us. We miss them.”

Sprite squeaked as she sunk beneath the sand. Cuttle looked up and saw another Sprite emerging from the ocean.

Sprite Dims

“I don’t feel so good,” sighed Sprite.

“She must be a passing thought of a human with a short attention span,” remarked Cuttle. “I blame the internet.”

“Oh shut up, Cuttle,” sighed Parrotfish. “It’s a sad moment when good ideas are overlooked as easily as a garden fence.”

Where am I?

“Excuse me,” said Sprite, “can you help? I don’t know where I am or how I’ve been here before.”

“This is where thoughts pass through to the afterlife,” sighed Parrotfish. “So you’re an idea of sorts.”

“What idea am I?” asked Sprite.

“Well,” replied Parrotfish, “how would you describe yourself in three words?”

“Not very good with numbers,” sighed Sprite.

Rabbit On

“Another Sprite, passing through,” sighed Cuttle.

“Another?” asked Sprite. “There’s more of me?”

“Thousands, apparently,” grumbled Cuttle. “It’s like magic. Your kind reproduces faster than rabbits.”

“Well,” fired back Sprite, “you pulled that insult out of the hat!”

“It’s taken me so long to find you,” cried Jake. “I beg of you, Hornless, they say my son has weeks left to live. Please, help him.”

“You don’t have a son,” sighed Hornless.
